When sixth grade teacher Katie reached out to Dansko to share a photo of she and her colleagues all in the same bootie, we knew we needed to learn more. Katie, Alex, Sadie, and Robin are a group of dedicated K-6 teachers in Boston. Their passion for their chosen profession shines through and their camaraderie and teamwork is inspiring.
Each with a unique story around why they chose teaching as their profession, Katie, Alex, Sadie and Robin all share the common goal of “closing the achievement gap” for all students.
“We want to make sure we are super prepared so we can do our best and our kids can come to school and do their best as well,” says Katie. “The most rewarding part of my job is seeing my kids grow. Seeing how far they have come as people and learners is the best part of my work.”
“Initially teaching was not my plan, it wasn’t what I was originally working towards. My dad is a teacher and my sister is a teacher,” kindergarten teacher Robin shared, “once I had that first job in a school, in a classroom, with the kids, I understood what all the fuss was about, and I joined the family as a teacher."
“The most rewarding part of my day is definitely getting to work with twenty-two amazing little people every day,” said Alex. “I feel honored to teach them and they are the reason I get up in the morning.”
For Sadie, the environment she is creating is a key part of “My classroom is a very safe and welcoming space. I want them to feel like it’s not just my classroom, but our classroom and our classroom community as well.”
Our teachers, who have been working together for the past five years, also share a common love for comfortable, stylish footwear. When Robin, Katie, Alex, and Sadie all showed up to work in the same Dansko boot, they started a full on trend.
“It was very difficult the first few years of teaching that I quickly learned I needed supportive footwear. When I discovered the Dansko boots, it was really a game changer for me”, says sixth grade teacher Alex.
Sadie shared with us that “As teachers, we work really long hours, we are on our feet for all the time, so having comfortable shoes makes a long challenging day feel so much easier.”
